Dr Bates' original work Perfect Eyesight Without Glasses was published in 1920. It was then abridged and republished in 1943 by Dr Bates' widow Emily Lierman-Bates, and retitled Better Eyesight Without Glasses. This latter version of Dr Bates' book has been in print ever since.

Within Better Eyesight Without Glasses, Bates describes the processes and philosophy behind vision improvement. It is not so much a simplified step by step instruction manual, but rather a set of principles of good vision that really gets you thinking, and it sets the basis for all the natural vision improvement practices that have emerged in the last 100 years.

William Horatio Bates, M.D. (1860–1931) was an Ophthalmologist who attributed errors of refraction – and many other visual conditions – to habitual strain of the eyes and mind. He felt that glasses simply locked the condition in place and in many occasions simply made the vision worse over time. This book was published in 1920 and it still remains a great resource today for those interested in natural vision improvement.

Abridged and republished as Better Eyesight Without Glasses in 1943, Perfect Sight in its original format was out of print for many years.
